Reuters) - Private equity company Blackstone Group (BX.N) has joined the bidding for Australian shopping-center owner Centro Properties Group's (CNP.AX) asset portfolio, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.
Blackstone made a preliminary offer by Centro's December 17 deal deadline and is primarily interested in Centro's 600 U.S. properties, the newspaper said, citing people familiar with the matter. Reuters) - UC RUSAL (0486.HK) on Tuesday rejected an offer to sell its 25 percent stake in Norilsk Nickel (GMKN.MM) to the Russian mining giant for $12 billion, dashing investors' hopes of an end to a long-running shareholder row.
Norilsk, the leading nickel and palladium miner, said late on Tuesday that RUSAL rejected its above-market offer. A source close to Norilsk's shareholders told Reuters that the company was willing to raise its offer to $14 billion, but Oleg Deripaska, who controls RUSAL, wanted $16 billion. Norilsk Nickel decided not to offer that much because it was concerned that this amount could harm its finances, the source said.

Reuters) - German builder Hochtief (HOTG.DE) prepared to lose its fight for independence from Spanish predator ACS (ACS.MC) on Wednesday, revealing a deal with its creditors to allow for the change of control. Hochtief's lenders have waived their right to cancel credit lines should any shareholder hold more than 30 percent, Hochtief's chief financial officer said in a newspaper interview, smoothing the way for the much more heavily indebted ACS to build a controlling stake. He said lenders were happy that the company was well capitalized enough, thanks in part to its sale of a 9.1 percent stake to the government of Qatar in December. That move was seen at the time as a defense against the takeover.

Dat had volgens grondstoffenhandelaren te maken met een afgezwakte dollar en leveringsproblemen vanuit de Collahuasi-kopermijn in Chili, de op twee na grootste ter wereld. De prijs van het veel in de bouw en de halfgeleiderindustrie gebruikte metaal wordt al tijden opgedreven door een sterke vraag uit China. De Chinese overheid kondigde afgelopen weekend een renteverhoging aan om de groei af te remmen en de inflatie te beteugelen. Toch geloven analisten niet dat dit veel invloed zal hebben op de koperprijs wegens de aanhoudende sterke vraag.

Reuters) - The U.S. securities regulator is looking into trading in privately-held Internet companies including Facebook and Twitter, media reports said, citing people familiar with the inquiry. The Securities and Exchange Commission has sent letters to several people trading in the stock of these companies, seeking information about topics that include how such funds are valuing shares of those firms, the Wall Street Journal reported. SEC spokesman John Nester declined to comment to Reuters on the Journal report. An emerging crop of online trading services such as SharesPost and SecondMarket facilitate share trading of unlisted Internet firms. The probe is in a preliminary stage and appears to be partly focusing on funds that have been set up to allow investors to trade in private companies, the newspaper reported. The regulator may also probe how the existence of funds affects an SEC rule that states that private companies must have fewer than 500 shareholders, or else publicly disclose significant financial information. This was part of the reason Google Inc went public in 2003, the Financial Times said.
